You should love your body, the way it is right now. Don’t plan on loving your body in the future, when it looks the way you think you want. If you don’t love your body now, spend some time looking at yourself in the mirror.

While looking in the mirror, list all of your favorite things about your body. Don’t start with the things you think you like, or what other people might like. Just go over the surface of your body without judgement.

Remind yourself of the events that gave you those beautiful scars. Maybe you have a scar from having a baby, or from a lesson you learned in life. Everyone has scars and talking about them, showing them off, shows strength.

Once you’ve done this mirror activity, you’re ready to focus on how to dress this beautiful body of yours. Listing what you like and want to show off, will help you to find the most flattering looks.

Be honest with yourself, maybe your most beautiful feature is something you’ve never realized. Check out those toes, find strength in your knees, or elbows. Many people find that giving your body a new look with fresh eyes, can reveal new lovely parts.

After you’ve spent at least 15 minutes finding the most beautiful parts of yourself, now you can think about how you want to style this body.

Think about your favorite colors and patterns. Just because they’re your favorite, does not mean you should always be wearing them. In fact, if you think of your favorite color, you might realize that your closet is full of it! You might even realize that your favorite color might not be the best for every day.

Make sure your wardrobe has enough options for you to wear something appropriate for a variety of occasions. You probably would like to have casual outfits for everyday, a business outfit and a party outfit.

  1. Improve Your Posture

Improving your posture will dramatically improve the way clothes fit. If you’re slouched over most of the day, you’ll never feel comfortable. When clothes are designed they’re for a customer that is standing upright. If you’re not standing upright, your clothes aren’t fitting the way they were made.

Standing upright helps improve your self esteem which also helps how you feel in your clothes.

Wearing flats is absolutely a style choice that is comfortable and works. Sometimes flats are more appropriate for the situation or daily use. But if you’re looking to improve the way your clothes fit, wearing a heel can change everything. Heels work to elongate your body, stretching your legs and tightening your glutes.

If you’re interested in stepping up your wardrobe, or maybe just temporarily feeling taller, wearing heels will help make a flattering shape.

 

  1. Create A Waistline With A Belt

Many people overlook the power of a belt. It is not just practical for holding up your pants! A belt can create a focal point for your waistline. No matter what size you are, drawing your eye to where your body holds a smaller shape, will be flattering.

 

  1. Break Up With Color

Using different bold colors and patterns on shoes, pants and shirts, can have an effect of “stacking” that helps lengthen the look. If you’re trying to get a flattering look, using color this way can effectively draw the eye upward. While you’re standing back in the mirror, if your eye has to work through a large amount of one color or pattern, it can be distracting.

Wearing one long color with the same pattern and shape, can have a “paper bag” effect. Make sure you’re always drawing your eye around your outfit, that there is more than one place to look.

Using a short jacket to elongate the body is always smart. Short jackets while they seem impractical, are actually a great visual technique. Flattering because they have long sleeves, and a short waist, they show off the fabulous curves of your body.

Adding lines that work up and down, makes everybody look flattering. Because the optical illusion of the vertical lines creates a flow for the eyes, you’ll appear taller and thinner. Make sure the lines aren’t too thin or too thick. You’ll need to do a little fashion show for yourself to decide on the perfect width of the stripes.
