Full disclosure. I’m a white girl with a white girl hair. My strands are very thin. What applies to me may not apply to you.
Anyway, getting on with it: I always thought I had straight hair. With just one one weird kink in it.
I always envied my sister’s tousled waves. But then one day, I found out I could have waves too. And I found out that I’m not the only one who’s lived their life without realizing they have naturally wavy hair.
It began when I went to the hairstylist to get a trim. Once she was done cutting my hair she asked me if I wanted my hair diffused or blow dried. “What’s diffusion?” I asked.
She explained that it was a blow drying attachment that preserves waves when you use it.
I asked her to diffuse my hair and to my utter surprise, my hair came out wavy the sea.
Excited, subsequent research revealed a bunch of YouTube videos where other women who had always thought they had frizzy straight hair turned out to also have curls.
Now, being freshly aware to my own wave, as I am, I don’t have much good advice. I’m still experimenting. But one thing I can say is don’t underestimate the power of anti-frizz spray.
And if you think you have straight hair, look up YouTube videos, experiment, and you might be surprised.
